Loudoun United, the youngest team in the USL Championship, were hosting Ottawa. It was my first Loudoun United game, a professional soccer team had just strolled into my back yard and containing the excitement was near impossible. The brand new sunny Segra Field was grinning at everyone as we arrived, the atmosphere live and friendly. We took our seats in the crimson stand, watched waves of curious and excited Loudoun residents stream in to watch the first professional sporting team from the county. The warm Virginian weather, a smiling crowd, and a local artist strumming his guitar, it was perfect. That’s the day I first saw him, he was smaller than everyone else on the field, yet graceful with the ball. His long searching passes, clever movement, quick one-twos, and a real presence in the middle of the field proved to everyone watching that they were witnessing a proper baller. He was fifteen years old, but his game spoke of a maturity far beyond his years. His positioning, his ability to find the runner in the channels, shifting the play across the field, graceful passes which were just nice to look at. Moses Nyemen, remember the name. He can play box to box, and creatively in the opposition half, once he builds up the physicals he will able to play in the hole as a deep lying playmaker. He is the only American on the Guardian’s Next Generation 2020 list. A world class prospect plays for my club, and has played in the same fields that most Loudoun kids have balled on as well. He is one of our own, and his name is Moses Nyemen.
