A plague has wrapped the globe in slimy tentacles, steadily increasing its slime and gripping the earth tighter. This plague is extremism, perpetuated by a sensationalist world, this virus has slathered and displaced millions in recent times. It has proliferated the mental health epidemic and wasted many careers. Since ancient times many philosophies have taught to think with a calm objective mind, and to try to understand the world from as many angles as possible, yet in the most advance age of humanity we seem to have degraded ourselves into immaturity. However, it is not the average person who had been degraded. It is the mainstream media, including mainstream social media, which have really degraded down into the dumpster. As individuals we strive to be objective and understanding, we also need to hold the media we consume to the same level. Extremism is cultivated when logic and understanding are smothered, and right now they are being murdered in the mainstream. We are the most intelligent species on this planet, we have accomplished unimaginable feats, our expectation from media should be significantly higher than senseless sensationalist clickbait, we deserve better from the messengers of our species. Content produced by the media will be the window future generations will use to view us, I want them to see the enlightenment of our time. However, the enlightenment has been dimmed to a shimmer by a media which has fostered extremism. Therefore, as individuals we must demand our media to be objective and do its best to understand and present a variety of opposing perspectives. Only then can we brighten the dim torch of enlightenment and let it shine through for generations to come.
